Delighted to see 3 Swifts in Dublin 8 today. My first sighting of these amazing birds this year. Have you seen any yet? Let us know.  

04/01/2019 - Debrup Chakraborty - North Bull Island
Curlew, Kestrel, Wigeon, Brent Geese, Turnstone, Black-headed gull, White wagtail, Godwit, Redshank, Mallard, Teal, Wren, Robin, and many other waders that I couldn't identify. 

01/01/2019 - Dermot Mc Cabe - Phillipsburg Avenue, Dublin 3 
A great beginning to the Year with Song Thrush singing loudly at 04.00. Never heard one so early before!

24/11/2018 - Dermot Mc Cabe - Tolka Outing to Co Louth
Alternating showers and brighter spells with a cold east wind.
Highlights were:-
  • Dundalk Port, 3 Ruff.
  • Gyles Quay 40+ Great Northern Divers.
  • Lurgangreen. 1 Slavonian Grebe.
  • Whitehouse Cross cornfields. c. 200 Pink-footed Geese, c. 40 Greylag Geese.
  • Salterstown, c.6 Tree Sparrows.

16/11/2018 - Philip Clancy
Adult Peregrine seen flying down O'Connell St on Friday afternoon. Also saw a Kestrel doing the same a few days beforehand. Buzzard & a Sparrowhawk at the train yard, back of Castle Forbes, upper Sheriff St in the last week.

Ger spotted a Hooded Crow having a tasty snack, check the gallery!

A Whooper Swan was at Broadmeadows Swords. Michael also saw a fabulous Jay in the Phoenix Park, check it out in the gallery.

25/10/2018 - Dermot Mc Cabe
More than 250 Pink-footed Geese feeding in a cornfield, a very high number for this species, probably associated with the northerly winds. North of Whitehouse Cross, East side of R132 Near Dundalk.

19/10/2018 - Philip Clancy
Buzzard seen at 8.30am hunting along train tracks at Castle Forbes, Sheriff St before flying off in the direction of the GPO. Never seen one so close to the city center before.

Ger was birdwatching on Portmarnock beach today, what a wonderful sunny day! Here's what he saw:
26 Red-throated Diver
5 Sandwich Terns
4 Common Scoter
2 Raven
Large numbers of gulls, Cormorants, Shags, Guillemots and Razorbills have been attracted to the sprats that have been present for the past few weeks.

Dermot Mc Cabe 
Watch out for a Leucistic Black-headed Gull which has returned each winter to the Phoenix Park since 2010. Often feeds at roadside from The Polo Grounds to Mountjoy Cross. Check out our gallery for a photo.
